Bagito is a Television series based on WattPad series written by Noreen Capili. It’s one of the newest teleserye of ABS-CBN, it gathered lots of attention both positive and negative in the past few days. The teleserye features Nash Aguas, Ella Cruz and Alexa Illacad as the main cast.
However, some critics in social media expressed their anger towards the show. According to them, the show reinforces the youth’s curiosity towards pre-marital and unprotected sex. These reactions sparked many debates about the teleserye. Some says that the Teleserye is nothing but a rate-bait show that cloaks itself as an eye-opener show, some defended it stating that it really opens the eye of the youth about the consequences of unprotected sex. Although some asked the netizens to let the show be aired for some more weeks before criticizing its content. In addition to this, the #FirstTime act also sparked a debate whether Nash Aguas’ act in the show is a form of rape or not if it happens in real life.
We asked the opinion of some viewers about this criticism, one prepubescent girl said in an interview, “Please don’t believe to their accusation, the show is great and it inspires me to become a responsible adult, because of this show I realized that should not commit pre-marital sex without protection.”
One concerned parent wasn’t so happy about this show, she said “This show is a bad influence to the children, its timeslot is also inappropriate as most parents cannot guide their child while watching it as most of us are still at work. It’s also plain love and sex with little to no moral story in it. I hope they stop producing this kind of shows for the sake of our future.”
A psychologist also noted that these kind of shows may have both positive and negative effects to its viewers, for open-minded teens, this can make them realize the consequences of this actions and will actually help them. But for the naive ones, this show may inspire them to do what their “Idols” are doing in the show, regardless if it’s just an act or not.
